Most Baking Powders Contain Aluminium!

I have just been casually looking through the book 'The Shape Diet' by Maria Middlestead and came across on page 195 that baking powders can contain aluminium plus wheaten cornflour for those of you that are gluten intolerant.  But the aluminium, so here I am buying aluminium free deodorant and all the while having years of sodium aluminium number 541in the baking agents.

I have just rung Edmonds about their Sure To Rise Baking Powder that is gluten free but not aluminium free with containing 541 Sodium Aluminium, which on the label is labelled as sodium bicarbonates 450, 541.  I am yet to hear back from Pam Baking Powder but this also has sodium bicarbonates in it but the number are not labelled.

I have just discovered this link that is from a famous pastry chef
 David Lebovitz where he recommends aluminium free baking powder www.davidlebovitz.com/2008/10/why-you-should-use-aluminum-free/ and he said you can make you own aluminium free baking powder.

Make your own Aluminium Gluten Free Baking Powder

For one teaspoon of baking powder;
 Mix 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/4 teaspoon of cornstarch.
Only make a small jar because baking powder looses its omfff as the element react together and deteriorate over time.

Edmonds baking soda has no aluminium and is gluten free

Huckleberry farms does a gluten free and aluminium free baking soda

So more things to add to the list, Make own baking powder.
